Air Quality

In densely populated areas especially of developing and transition countries but also in sensible regions like the Alps, considerable air quality problems exist. Due to the strongly increasing urbanization, industrialization, and mobility, these problems will further grow in the future and imply considerable risk potentials for human health and ecosystems.

Therefore following objectives arise:

  • Determination of the current state and future variation of the atmosphere within urban and sensitive regions.
  • Assessing the impact of a changing air pollution situation to the complex relationship between urban/suburban/rural and to the regional climate due to a changing pollution transport
  • Determination of a changing air pollution exposure in conurbations and surroundings in close collaboration with epidemiological research groups.
  • Development and assessment of mitigation measures and reduction scenarios in close co-operation with local stake holders and research institutions.
